Fulbright Scholarship

Education

Sikuma received Fulbright Foreign Student Program scholarship to continue higher studies at Hunter College, CUNY, USA. She began her MFA degree in the Integrated Media Arts program in August 2022 and is planning to graduate in 2025. The program is focused on multimedia storytelling and informs the student on the histories and contemporary topics of nonfiction fiction/new media. Currently, she is enjoying experimenting with mediums, forms, and content while exploring life in New York City. 

Costume Designer role

Experience

Sikuma worked as a Costume Designer for a Nepali feature film "A Road to a Village" directed by the esteemed Nepali indigenous filmmaker Nabin Subba. Sikuma worked closely with the director and the department heads to conceptualize looks for the characters, produce the designs, and work on the set to dress the actors. The film is about an indigenous community from Nepal which Sikuma belongs to.

The film began its pre-production in mid-2021, shooting in February 2022 in Bhojpur, Nepal, and is undergoing final editing in April 2023.

Conference
on South Asia

Film discussion

Sikuma was invited to speak at the 49th Annual Conference on South Asia, organized by University of Wisconsin–Madison. The three-day event featured screening of her documentary "Come over for a drink, kanchhi" along with two other South Asian independent films and a round-table discussion with Dr Darshana Mini, Ramdas Kadavallur and Don Palathara. The event was held on 21 October 2021.

OWMA Nomination

Awards and recognition

"Come over for a drink, kanchhi" was nominated for the Short Film Award at the One World Media Awards 2021 in June. The UK-based award recognizes the best media coverage of the global south. Sikuma attended the virtual screening and award ceremony on 17 June 2021.

Scriptwriting Workshop

Event organization

Sikuma and other members of the group Nepali Female Filmmakers organized a local and free two-week 'Scriptwriting Workshop with acclaimed director Nabin Subba and  Anup Subedi' for young female fiction writers. 18 young and promising writers were chosen for the mentorship from the pool of 40 applications. The workshop was held from 13-29 June 2021.

South Korea Premiere

Documentary screening

"Come over for a drink, kanchhi" was premiered in South Korea in September 2021. It was screened online and at the theaters at the 23rd Seoul International Women’s Film Festival.
